Mompox has a real shortage of accommodation options for the Semana Santa high season. Out of this period you'll not have any trouble finding a place to stay.

Mompox, the breathtaking colonial town and UNESCO World Heritage Site famed for its whitewashed streets, wrought iron windows, austere Semana Santa and small town charm has a few options when it comes to accommodation. All really depends on what you are looking for.

Since Mompox only really has one high season, Semana Santa, prices are increased sometimes as much as fourfold to reap the benefits of this period and often rooms are hard to come by. For this reason tourists are advised to book well in advance and plan their travel routes as well as bus prices inflate too.

If you book your accommodation in advance and plan on staying a few days during the Easter Week period then there is the likelihood of a price reduction but if you arrive on a wing and a prayer you may be found wanting and have to rent a room in a private home for an exorbitant amount. Stories abound of the Momposino who rented a hammock space for a lost German tourist for $15 per night!

Top End Accommodation

Hostal Doña Manuela

Right on the Real Calle del Medio that splits Mompox down the centre is the best hotel option – not a Hostal as the name suggest - in town should you have the money. Each of the 22 rooms is in this colossal colonial mansion is equipped with cable TV and air conditioning. At the back of the Hostal there is also a swimming pool. Wealthy Momposinos often book the Hostal for wedding receptions and first communions. It is the stately and luxury option in Mompox.

Mid Range Accommodation

Hotel La Casona

The rooms are accommodating if a little dark and the hotel could do with a bit of renovating but if your budget does not extend to the luxuries of the Hostal Doña Manuela and you are still looking for a hotel then look no further. Like everything in the old town, the Hotel is housed in an old colonial mansion and is merely one block from the Plaza Bolivar and the sites of Mompox.

Budget Accommodation

Hotel Villa de Mompox

At the other end of town from the aforementioned hotels but still on the Real Calle del Medio is the Hotel Villa de Mompox. The rooms are well kept, clean and all have fans or air conditioning and bathrooms. This is an ideal spot for those not wanting to spend the hard cash and who are not looking for a place that is too complicated.

Backpacker/ Traveller Accommodation

La Casa Amarilla

New to the Mompox accommodation scene is La Casa Amarilla. Small but perfectly formed the emphasis is on creating a comfortable and laid back atmosphere where travellers and backpackers can enjoy Mompox at their own speed. There are two dorm rooms and two private rooms and the property overlooks the mighty Magdalena River and the kisokos in the park out front where you can enjoy and ice cold beer.
